SINCGARS SwISS

Under the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS)1 Software In-Service Support (SwISS) contract, the ITT Communications Systems/Thales Communications team is providing technical support, software maintenance/upgrades, and enhancements to baseline Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) SINCGARS software for the Joint Program Executive Office (JPEO) JTRS Network Enterprise Domain. These updates and enhancements will evolve the baseline JTRS SINCGARS waveform, providing improved features, functionality, and performance for our warfighters while protecting the Government’s existing investment in radio platform hardware.

The ITT/Thales team was selected for this contract based on best value to the U.S. Government and also having unsurpassed knowledge of SINCGARS, exceptional operational software-defined radio expertise, direct knowledge of the SINCGARS Information Repository (IR) waveform, and combined experience in JTRS programs of record. ITT is the original developer of the SINCGARS waveform. Thales has developed SINCGARS waveforms for the AN/PRC-148 family of radios, including the JTRS Enhanced Multiband Inter/Intra Team Radio (JEM), the only Software Communications Architecture (SCA)-compliant handheld radio to be developed under a JTRS program of record. In its role in the JTRS Handheld, Manpack, and Small Form Fit (HMS) program, Thales is responsible for porting the SINCGARS IR waveform to hardware.

1SINCGARS is a key U.S. Army waveform used broadly in dismounted and mounted applications on more than 400,000 tactical radio platforms.
