Enabling comprehensive intermediate-level maintenance capabilities in theater.
Challenge:
To ensure real-time support for warfighters, U.S. Central Command needed comprehensive intermediate-level maintenance capabilities in theatre for the Thales AN/PRC-148 Multiband Inter/Intra Team Radio (MBITR). There are over 50,000 MBITRs deployed worldwide, and this combat-proven radio is being used extensively in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and the Global War on Terrorism.
Solution:
Thales Communications set-up an MBITR maintenance and repair facility at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. It was successfully completed in a short timeframe, which was crucial to meeting operational objectives. The depot, with support infrastructure provided by Thales, supplies a full suite of test equipment and a stock of replacement parts and subassemblies to ensure the continued operation and maintenance of the MBITRs. Establishing this facility as close as possible to the soldiers who use and depend on the radios significantly reduces the overall turnaround time for repairs and provides a significant resource to our warfighters.
Thales has earned a "World Class Rating" for effective and responsive customer service. Establishing depot facilities, both in theater and domestically, is part of that comprehensive customer support program.
